Test taking strategies

Test taking strategies include many aspects of preparation. Do not overlook the importance of getting a good nights rest and eating a healthy breakfast or lunch.  "Cramming" or studying hard the night before late into the night is almost never a good idea.  Your brain functions best when it is well rested. Preview the exam before you start answering any questions so you have an idea of what the test looks like. Remember to breathe.  Deep breathing can help you relax and think better.

Answer easy questions first and then go back to harder questions.  Use a process of elimination.  If the question is multiple choice and you know it definitely isn't a or c, then you can narrow down your options.  Make sure you read the question thoroughly. Sometimes there are multiple steps to the question or a key word which is easy to miss. You would be surprised how many students may get a wrong answer from not reading the question carefully. Click on the document below for more info.
